Aunt Lizzie again. This photo was hand tinted, which was a very delicate and arduous process. The colours have changed with age, so that’s why she looks a little eerie.

This is the Jamison family. The policeman with the rather marvelous mustache was called John and he was my great, great uncle.

When I started this blog I made a rule: I would never post any photo taken after 1990. The older the better, in fact. This picture was taken in 1992 so it definitely breaks this rule. However, it’s so lovely that I just had to show you.

My great great aunt Helen on the left, my great grandmother Christina on the right, in their land-army uniforms. I think this is WW1, but I’m not sure. If anyone with more expertise could tell me I’d be very grateful.

My great great aunt Margaret Tait, who after moving to America, kept up close correspondence with her sister Christina (my great grandmother), who remained in Shetland.
I love photos of Margaret. She always looked so dark, gentle and demure.

Aunt Lizzie in the 1920s. She couldn’t play the violin but I suppose she thought it was a good idea to pose with one.
